First Stop Manta..

« on: March 27 2006 18:03:00 »

I'm coming over to Ecuador (arriving Quito) at the end of May and I'll be spending about 3 months in South America, ending up in Buenos Aires.

I'm thinking of starting in Manta for a couple weeks to brush up on my spanish before heading south. (don't worry I wont miss Montanita!!)

I'm at lower intermediate level I guess used to surfing the west of Ireland.

Anyways..  the questions...

1) Will I be able to pick up a board ok in Manta (the airline wants 420 euro EACH WAY to fly one from home)

2) Is manta a good choice or is there somewhere else I should be looking at first? (my reason for choosing it is that there seems to be a pretty good spanish school there).

3) How big a pain in the...will it be lugging a 6'9"ish board around on busses etc.

4) Anything else I should know.

Cheers

Hi there.

Could you tell me in what air line company do you will travel?

Because 450 to travel with your board is too much

North is excellent from December to April
South is good all year
If your plan is May, then head to Playas
is very cheap but not good hotels there
is 1 hour from Guayaquil
traveling on busses is a pain... even if you don´t have a board
about the airline cost, you can sell the board here if it´s new you can make more than 500
forget the spanish school, get a girlfriend

Ian, I have the identical plan as you, and while I have no doubt you will have no trouble finding a girflriend to teach you Spanish, if you DON'T I'll probably see you in Manta.

Bring me a board too!

Hey all... well not too sure about heading to Manta now, been in quito nearly a week and am heading to montanita later today.

Picked up a bic 6´7 and a nice bag for 65usd in my hostel, not too bad, but might be a bit tricky for me - only surfed mini mals up to now. - anyone want it when i´m done with it?

Just got here, there seems to be plenty of boards for sale around the 150usd mark... generally quite nice shortboards.

I´ll take mine for a first drive tomorrow... if its too tuff for me i´ll give you first refusal on its resale.

Its a bit cloudt here right now, and because of this its a bit quiet... not a bad thing some might say...

Suerte,

Ian
