El Salvador El Salvador

Dangerous Country

I just got back from a 8 day surf trip to El Salvador.  We surfed most of the breaks in the East and West and stayed at the top hotels but still found the country to be extremely dangerous.  Our room was broken into twice on the trip and the breaks are very localized.

The locals forced us to leave many of the breaks on our stay.  They kept dropping in on us and yelling at us.

I would never go back...a waste of time and money.  Costa Rica is a much safer bet.

RE: Dangerous Country

yeah, we were relieved of our belongings our first night in el salv. and the other aussies that arrived the week before were as well. but we probably deserved it for being complacent and choosing to drink  cerveza at a party instead of locking up our gear. i heard a lot of things in my short time there including murders and armed robberies and rapes. we had our van cleaned out one nite but apart from that i had a great time. the people were awesome we met but there are some bad apples out there. watch your arse and respect the locals. there are some all time right hand points there.

damn! sure is scary in el salv. try goin here in the philippines, the surf is friendly and i bet ya a hundred percent that the locals won't damped on you but instead they look foward to make you first in the wave coz people here are very hospiatble and polite! => sure sucks in el salv.

RE: Dangerous Country

I think you guys dont know El Salvador At all, definetly you had to be non salvadorian to get rob, Im a girl an I go everywhere at 3am, 8 am, 12 pm..at anytime. You have to meet the correct people to get you to excellent places...I cannot deny that ..there are places where u can get robed! but ask me that!! I never expose myself and thats the way to avoid being robed (and that applies to any country in the world, i remmember that i got robbed in LA, that was horrible..)  Thats why its better to inform yourself before doing a trip....
by the way.....
:p u miss meeting me!!
take care...

RE: Dangerous Country

What beaches did you go to in el Salvador?   I just don't believe your story.  El Salvador has enjoyed a level of peace since 1992. And like any other contry it has a small crime incidence  but not to the level that you describe..   I will also say that most crime is localized and concentrated in the poor neighborhoods in San Salvador.  If you were robbed most likely you stayed in the bad section of the capital and not at the beach like you claim.

RE: Dangerous Country

I agree better to stay in Costa. Tell your friends and the rest of the internet that El Sal is invested with crime, way too many gringos and has become yet another over crowded destination with mediocre waves. I'll go back to Lips, Rastas & Mangos and report back if there are any changes.
