yep, try monterrico. This spot is great, there are no crowds and the waves are always happening. The vibe is somewhat euro but there are some friendly locals that surf. Everybody meets at around at 6am and 3pm for some fun sessions in front of johnny's place and at night check out "el animal desconocido" for a good time.

Try Sipacate, or Paredon is not that far, I havent been to Paredon but I heard it´s a cool place. Sipacate has nice wave break, sand on the bottom, and the wave reaches to 8 ft. depending on the weather, locals are friendly people, you can rent a bord on rancho Carrillo its a nice relaxing place on the shore of Sipacate beach.

Hey guys, I'm a small, blonde American female (so I'll stick out VERY well) who will be backpacking through Guatemala ALONE this July... anyone who's been know of safe places near the beach to stay? I really don't want to try to transport my board all over the place with me, or know who can be trusted (for rides, etc.) since I won't have anyone to protect me if I get into a bad situation... Anyway, thanks a ton!
oh and P.S.- I'm pretty broke, so safe AND cheap is a plus!

I wish I had seen this earlier. I just got back from Guatemala in June and am going back in September just to surf. Did you end up finding any good places? Did you find someone to travel with or have any problems while you were down there?
