Gili Islands Surfing« on: May 24 2008 03:05:00 »
Hi Guys I know the gilis aren't renowned for surf, but i see there are some fickle breaks, anyone surfed there in the summer time - whats it like?

Rod- suck my rod! There is no surf because of extended flat reef and extreme tides and your bullshit lines, 8-10", good for an ironing board, that's about it

You charming young lady. 8 - 10', I think you are getting mixed up with the size of your enlarged clitoris.
List of items in order of priority to bring to Gilli Islands.
1. Bong ( no police on Island) and asprin
2. Lubricant ( lots of hot Euro hippies ..... and Christine if you desire a more robust woman )
3. Flippers and Snorkel
4. Surfboard and booties.
Great spot for beginners.

Im going to Gili ova new years eve this year and was wondering if anyone has surfed there in that time cause ive heard that there isnt that much swell at that time of the year? Cause i dont want to take my board all the way over there if i have no chance of getting a good wave.

I've surfed Gilli Trawangan in May off a surf charter boat that was passing by. Skipper of boat was surprised to find it working...think it has a lot to do with the tide. Brilliant coloured coral underneath..makes it look really shallow on take off. Right hander that barrels with a thin lip but closes out...next surfer down the line then takes off and same thing happens.
Went back a year later and stayed at Gilli Trawangan in July for 2 weeks...no surfable waves to speak of..though some South African guys paddled out one day and came in all cut up on the coral.

I have been surfing Indo since 1983 and lived in Bali for 4 years. Gili Trawangan is basically a hoax wave but Gili Air has a perfect right hander. Unfortunately it needs a huge swell to get down there and with the radical tidal changes in the Lombok strait it is very elusive. If you do get it on you are very lucky and you will be stoked.

i'm on gili t now and can honestly say the surfing has been great the last few days. 40 meter rides for those who can drop real fast waves. swell was at 14 feet in desert point and was near 7-8 on gili. had a great time....there was hardly anyone surfing and you had your choice of waves-cheers
