East Sumba/Mr. Davids« on: September 23 2005 17:09:00 »
HI: looking for for some feedback from someone who's been to East Sumba/Mr. Davids area. I've read info on seasons, transport, ect., looking who's been there, the usual: crowds, localism, is there surf in the off season, hotels(beside the camps), locals. I know Nihiwatu($$$$) is the big bucks place(Not interested). Appreciate any info out there.

He mate, we went there a few years ago in july i think. The waves at Mr.David are shit. 5o is probably awesome on its day but everything needs to be just right i.e tides, winds. When we were there it was real windy all day every day. Mr David himself is a fat asshole who drinks bintang all day and has an 18yr wife (hes about 50). Sumba is very dry and windy but probably has awesome waves on their day.

Yeah i can back krusty up
Mr David is a fat, lazy pedophile however he has a stack of boards that he never uses - too fat to surf now - his beer gut gets in the way which he will lend you, his mal in particular is good fun, the waves are for soft pussies or girls. I wont be going back there in a hurry put it that way

his wife is 45. you're an idiot and have obviously never been there. true, the waves aren't very good but the island itself is magnificent and no one who has spent time there can say a bad word about it.

Foregt Mr. Davids, he has bad karma coming his way. Go to Mr Martins if he is still there, 2001, at Marosi...awesome right hander, big barrels no crowds but only really works over 4-5foot swell, gets very very good at about 8ft. It was pretty basic camp back then but had everything you need. The Indies Trader quicksilver crew came thru for a few days when I was there and tore it apart. An old timer compared it to Nias.

I stayed there for a week 2 years ago. It's expensive and stupidly expensive compared to anything else in Sumba. It doesnt pick up as much swell as other places on the island and it's mainly lefts (there is a right but its a treck). Food is good. Accomodation is brilliant and David is a mad old Auusie fool with brilliant stories. It's not easy to get to. Bus is very difficult but doable.Give it a go. It's an amazing place but only do it if you have time to spare and love lefts. Sumba is a cool place, great surf but it's not easy or quick to get around.

Just seen the Mr Martins comment. This is also a great wave but accomodation is basic and flea ridden. Food is basic also and very same same. It aint cheap compared to other places and the right hander is awesome but it's a 25 minute paddle, a good 500 meters out.
