Any good spots close to Krui?« on: April 04 2011 17:04:00 »
Going to south sumatra in two weeks (prey for no tsunami) and will be staying in a camp at Krui. There is Ojung Bocur out the front, but just wondering if anyone has been there and know of other good breaks in the area? I have a list of the main breaks, but a couple of little secrets via email would be really handy!!!
After Sumatra I am heading to Portugal to back pack and surf my way through some country's for a while. Can't wait!!!

To post or even give you" secret little emails" for anywhere in indo or portugal or anywhere else for that matter would no longer be a secret would it??people go through a lot of hardship to escape the masses. To expect it to be handed to you on a platter is just rude. Get maps, get off the tourist trail and go find them yourself.

If there was any other quality spots in the area im sure they would be listed on the surf camps websites, to try to temp you to come to the area, surf camps generally aren't into keeping secrets, there more into making money, and im sure Andy would of spilled the beans on any secrets years ago.

Yeah fair call everyone. The congestion of surfers these days is frustrating so so I don't think my post was that cool. I'll find some spots of my own in a couple of weeks. I guess you don't ask you don't get, but a public forum certainly isn't the way to go.

There are waves to be had in that region ... however you have missed it by 5 years regarding the crowd factor.
Yeah I know we are all part of the problem but package deals bringing in groups of 10 to 20 people every couple of days have made the situation crazy.
In short ... a hell of a long way to get mediocre waves populated by frothing Euros and assorted flotsam jetsom.
Enjoy ..ha ha ha

Yeah too true theres is at least 8 camps there now with 6 on the point that all hold at least 10 guest some 20 to 30, so in theory there could easily be 50 to 100 surfers staying just at the point.
crazy...five years ago or so there was only 3 camps.
Flights are also expected to be starting in the near future also with Susi air, so will only get more crowded.

a bit rich coming from someone who has a website detailing indo to the masses. i go every year to indo, mostly to well known area's where it can get crowded. in my opinion the only thing thats increased is the amount of people who go to indo & cant surf. overhead & above i get my fair share.....

Some of the camps in the area market the area as uncrowded which is misleading, and i have met quite a few guys who expected the area to be uncrowded but were shocked when they got there and found the point with camps all along it and 30 guys in the water.
My post and website is more about giving people the facts and there is nothing there that can't be found on commercial sites on the net, every surf camp/resort/charter is listed on the site, as it would be misleading not to, but you may notice we also encourage booking with resorts/camps that take low guest numbers 6 to 10 (normally means they are in it for the lifestyle/live the dream), rather than places that take 20 guys and charge good $$$ normally just to keep there investors happy, but crowd remote areas.

good reply mick, misleading information can only hurt those that do it. granted info is available everywhere on the net.in my experience only those who go far from the tourist trail can really expect uncrowded. or pay big bucks. most places are crowded 'in' the season cause it is the 'in' season.... very few places can claim ' genuine uncrowded' cheers.
