Moving to Genoa

« on: August 12 2006 12:08:00 »

I will be moving to Genoa this month from of all places Hawaii.  I've done my research and although Italy seems fickle, I'm sure I will get some waves.  If anyone wants to meet and catch some waves, drop me a line.  I'll be there for 2 years so I have plenty of time.

We are thinking about moving over to Genoa for a couple of years as my wife is from cogoletto. (decent waves during the winter months there !!) and she wants to spend some time with her parents who are getting on a bit.
More out of curiosity, what do you think of living in Genoa ??
Did you find work easily etc etc

Hi Joe, you're here in Italy since 2006, so maybe you've already heard about what I'm goin' to tell u, but anyway: Viareggio, Tuscany, is the city in wich surf were imoprted from the outer countries; a surfer founded the "Natural Surf" that became the meeting point of the wave catchers of that time (now it has moved to a town near Viareggio, Darsena. If u want to go there it's in Via Coppino). The city is still a place were to meet people to surf together, even an international surf contest takes place there (in september, I think). Viareggio is not far from Genova and it's a nice place to visit, I hope this informations will be useful for you in an empty, boring weekend or something similar! Bye! :-)  (I'm sorry for my english)

I know that these posting are a little out of date, but if anybody knows anything about the surf around Genoa or thereabouts I'd be really grateful for some information. Also anyone who'd like to get together for a surf. After living in Oz and Morocco and now finding myself in Milan, I'm feeling disturbingly landlocked!!

Only place worth surfing near to Genoa is Varraze. Livorno too is good.Ask at the surf shop there for details. Italians are good guys in the water and good surfers too.
I am a Welsh and live in Sicily which has nice waves when they appear, the water is warm (even in January) and there are no crowds. The north coast here is good around Palermo and then the east coast from Siracussa down and up the west coast.
Its here you just have to find it. Locals are always happy to share with new folk.
