Surf - mazatlan - places to stay and camp« on: February 01 2005 17:02:00 »
Me and a buddy are heading to Mazatlan in late march to surf. we are debating between grabbing a hotel room in town and renting a car, or renting a van or something and charging it down the cost. Is there decent surf south of Mazatlan? (if so where?) and does anyone know where i can check the surf report online for mazatlan without having to pay for it? and lastly if you suggest a hotel, can you suggest a surf freidnly cheap hotel that is no too dirty.
ps. any receomendation for a good surf guide book?

go to mazatlan.com.mx and click on "surfing".
This page is full of info.
The surfing in Sinaloa is very good.
There's even a good break directly to the east of culiacan.

Whatever you do, don't trust the rental agencies. They will lie through their teeth to book you to rent a car. The agency at the airport promised us a minivan over the phone, when we got to mazatlan, all they had for us was this puny car. The agent spoke plainly: We never ever would rent a minivan to anyone. The surfers will rent it and we'd be lucky to ever get it back.
Believe me, they know the game, get your credit card number and when you get to the airport you're screwed. They are not going to rent any type of SUV or minivan to surfers. They've learned all their lessons and the major rental agents know not to do it. You'll be lucky to get a nissan sentra.
