SJDS is a mainstay for travelers. You can hook up with others there, locals and tourists. There a some decent breaks around there but better ones up north. North has less for accomodation and food. However there are a few places to stay there depending on what you are looking for.

Good Luck with the Surf and enjoy the great people of Nicaragua.

I surfed Nicaragua last year, and it was stellar.  My suggestion is to go to San Juan Del Sur and stay at the Joxy Hotel.  It's super cheap, and pretty safe.  There are daily boat trips that go to a whole bunch of breaks like Pongo (gnar) and Popoyo (even more gnar).  Watch out though, Nicaragua is kinda sketchy, especially if you don't speak spanish.  Stay off the beach at night, and you should be fine, Buenas Olas

My wife and I are heading to Nica next week and we will be spending a few nights in SJdS.  Is it possible to rent boards there?  If so, where?  If not, what type and size boards should I bring?  Are there any good surf guides that could take us out for a day or two?

Thanks,
Paul

in april its great conditions to surf but this year spring break in nicaragua lands on the first week of april so that means the beaches are going to be filled with locals you might even get a few surf company's like roxy, hurley, valcom, rusty, quicksilver. that go their a few times a year to take pics of nicaragua if you dont belive me look at the january issue of surfing inside you will find a 10 page article on nicaragua surfing and how in the next couple of years is going to be the next big thing.( for now look for a place called popoyo camp in san juan they rent surf boards and basicaly its a surf camp the owner is jj )

I got a gun pulled on me there last year. They got my money, my board and it totally blew my trip.
