go here if you want to get shot dead« on: May 22 2007 19:05:00 »
My girlfriend and I were mugged at gun point on May 13th 2007. Not only were we mugged, we were mugged from a cab on a highway in the middle of the day. The cops did nothing. We represent the third incedent like ours, the last ended with a dead German surfer, the inncedent before three people were shot dead including the cab driver.
Do not go here, it is not worth the risk, these guys could kill you with out a second thought.
Huanchaco is a safer option, we surfed there for a month with no problems at all.

Sorry to hear about you beening robbed, but after spending over a year in peru i found out the most dangerous people are taxi drivers and fishing men. They earn very little and they have a chance to steal from tourist they will, just a tip if you go to peru watch out in fishing ports and dont travel bt taxi at night no matter what, even the locals are worried of doing this. But if your carefull you might score the best waves of your life.

i am sorry some surfers encountered bad experiences in peru! but it's good to know to avoid taxi drivers and fisher men!
after all i think central america CAN be dangerous...but i travelled el salvador and nicaragua already, all by myself and i experienced NOTHING bad! as long as you are careful, speak spanish, they respect you then, and do not forget to respect THEIR country- they are still the locals and i can really understand them to be a bit angry with all this surf-tourism..but maybe i was just lucky..

If your going to north peru, i recomened pacasmayo, the wave is really long and can get hollow. If a big south swell comes head to chicama(30 mins away), you have some inca sites near by( chan chan) and you can pop up to mancora for some night life, but the surf is alway very crowded in mancora so dont expect much. If you go to huanchaco, dont stay in the hotel casa suiza, i got some stuff stolen from the people who worked there and when i went to the police they told me the owner are always stealing from tourist. Any more info needed please ask, just remember all of peru has surf so you can go from the north right down south, but be carefull and dont use any taxis at night.
