Surfboard Rental & Waves Late June« on: May 27 2007 18:05:00 »
I will br in Portugal for 9 days in Late June. I flying into Lisbon & heading down South & back up again. I was thinking about taking my surfboard but lots of costs on airlines plus extra hassle. Wondering if it is worth renting a board? Is it easy to rent a board on the Altenjo region? Maybe rent a board in Lisbon & drive down?

Really the air companies are charging very much for the transport of the board. Here it is very simple to rent a board, both in the Alentejo and in Lisbon you have schools and shops that they rent. If you want more information, contact, that it will help you with great pleasure

Maybe you could help me too. I've heading out to Lisbon for a few days in June with some friends. There are a couple of good surfers in the group and a couple who, dare I say it, want to do some boogie boarding. We're staying in Lisbon, and will travel out to the coast on the train. Which area/beach would you recommend and where can we hire surfboards and boogie boards?
look forward to hearing from you.

Don't forget Costa da Caparica on the south side of the river. And look out for a dvd called "Comportamentos do Risco" - it's 100% Portuguese bodyboarding and may change your opinions. In Portugal the two sports are (quite rightly) seen by the general public as equal.
Hope you get good waves.

Hi Rui..I have to ask you...you are still writing, that near Porto there are duzens of good spots...which ones do you think exactly? I am now in Porto and my friends will come to spend one surfing week here. Well, I stood twice on a board( but I want to learn,of course:-) ) and my friend know, how to surf. Could you recommend some? We also need to rent surf somewhere and also neopren. Maybe if you know some shops, where we could make bussiness for one week?:-) Whatever you write me, it will help me... Thx, Koca

Welcome to Porto.
You have to go to the south coast od Douro´s river, where u have more options to choose from. If you are driving go to Espinho beach., close to a CASINO. It is one of my favourite waves. Then just drive south close to the pears. There are like 6 in a row. If you are getting the train get out in Espinho train station.
This week it been pretty stormy bt is getting better for tomorrow.
Hope i wrote this on time....

Are you a bodyboarder? If so, next time you go to Espinho say hi to Jo, Tiago Ramirez and Faustino from me!
