Surfcam in West Coast now, what are peoples opinions?

« on: July 01 2006 10:07:00 »

Hi there,
If anyone has noticed for Scotland now there is a surfcam up on a certain west coast Island spot....

I was wondering what people think?

I think its ok as long as the beach isnt wrecked because of it........Im sure if someone put one up in Thurso, it would be sabotaged in an instant!................................

what ever happened to waking up at dawn and going down to the local and checking it out, surfing is becoming easy enough for everyone now, especially when you can just look at the surf on a web cam and no if you wanna go down or not, now there arnt any of those sessions with u and ur mates cause u understand the ocean better than anyone else, its bullshit

yeah, its all a bit too easy these days. I live in Western Australia and there are surf-cams at most popular breaks along the coast now. They have been sabotaged previously but now most people just accept them as progress. But whilst these young uns are waiting for their web-cam pictures to download , I've allready got a dozen waves under my belt, nothing will ever beat the early.

They should take it down,

Youll get people who cant even paddle and dont surf much who will fly in at weekends in the winter when the swells are big and theyll get in trouble,
No lifeguards here and lifeboat station on other side of island.

Where next Thurso east?

who is going to fly to the island to surf when they see the webcam??  the webcam is crap anyway doesnt really tell u much as it is in a bad place. the most it tells u is what the tides doing!

if anything it gives a pretty picture.

webcams, good idea in my views.  What if you live a good views miles from your local break...it can save you a journey which is money if the surf is crap or a quick glance on the internet could make your day when you think you didnt have 1.  The negativity about them is abit OTT

hardly man, when one of the main bummers about surfing is overcrowding at ur local break.  so in ur theory, why dont we just put a camera at every break so we can see which breaks are working best at a particular time.  can u see my point?
