Where to surf around Los Angles

« on: August 06 2007 18:08:00 »

I live in Fl. and have surfed for about 20 years .  I will be in Los Angles the first weekend in Sept and would like to paddle out.  How are the waves generally in Sept.  What is the water tempature?  I was thinking of driving down to Laguna Beach to surf.  Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

The water will be warm and you may be in for a nice swell.  good luck.  You may want to reconsider your Laguna Beach location.  Sure, it gets waves, but nowhere as good as it's neighbors to the north and south.  Road trip!  Try San Onofre for longboard action, or Huntington Beach to the north for a decent beachbreak.  Seriously, have a great time in SoCal but you can do better than Laguna.

Thanks for the info, I don't know where San Onefre is but I will look it up.  Based on your advice I will ditch the Laguna idea.

Thanks,

Sonny

Eh.  I'm from Ventura Co and have been to San Onofre.  Good times!  Easy to get to.  Just head south out of LAX on the 405 frwy.  After about 1hr it turns into the 5 frwy.  Somewhere by OC airport.  Keep driving south for about another 45 min or so.  It is just south of San Clemente.  Look for the big reactor's on the right.  Also check out Tressels.  Cali rules!  Glenn.

Easily, the most accessible and friendly spot is between El Cap and Goleta- the locals are so environmentally in touch, they use clear- based surfboards and mimic sea mammals with black wetsuits; they're soooo groovy, and, it's like that beach scene in Point Break- wow, Patrick, just sweep me off my feet and let's get tubed together!
