I visit Hawaii every year, and find that there are far fewer assholes per capita than on the mainland.

Anyway, what I wanted to point out is that the blogger's "$$$$" are actually very insignificant, compared to the money brought in by tourists who do not surf.  It is evident that he is not exactly a big spender  (to quote, "the hotels are cheaper, food is cheaper, etc.,,,").  Guys like this think that they're a lot more important than they really are.  I suspect he also thinks that he's got better surfing skills than he really does  (to feel compelled to mention, "so, I have surfed CA, FL, SC even HI once....") Honestly, what pretense- I somehow doubt that he's being endorsed by Rip Curl!

Most Locals are cool, I lived on Maui for 2 years and surfed the bay all the time. One surfer that everyone knows "Keah" I don't know how to spell his name, he gets aggro with everyone, I can surf way better than him, so can the majority of locals in the water, but he would probably get aggro on slater, curren, parko, just to prove a point that he's a jerk and is a local. So don't take offense if you can rip and a local calls you a kook
