Brisbane at present 21C, by Nov., about 23-24C
Sydney at present  18C, by Nov., about 20C

hey andy, thanks for your info. i'm not a surfer, but come from bris and got used to the water temp at little cove on the sunshine coast. in sydney now and hate the freeze yer butt off water temps. surely there must be more in the way of precise times where currents are warmer for a dip at coogee or bondi for a whimp like me!

Julie, not too much sympathy from me at the moment, I'm on the far south coast where the water is 14.7 C ( ouch)
From now until about xmas, the water temp tends to fluctuate, the EAC is doing its best but Northeast winds( common) will turn the water cooler and Southerly for a couple of days will see it warm up again.Its a strange science but true. Last year at xmas time here we would have 14degrees one day then 20 the next. Very frustrating when you think the water is finally warm to have your balls frozen off next day!

point and click sea surface temperature.

even surfing in 9 degrees or 7 degrees C is fine if you wear enough rubber.
