i surfed the main beach in cartagena back in the mid 70's. only boards then were us purchased. plenty of diving. lots of reefs and wrecks. might get lucky and find a peice of eight. 3-5ft surfable waves. used to hit them before going to school. my father still lives down there and says they do have boards, but at u.s prices. i know my information is not up to date, but we started the surfing craze there. no one knew about it till we were there.

I lived in Cartagena for 1 year - It's definitely not a surf place. Waves (when there are some) are too small and with the predominant on-shore wind too choppy. I saw people surfing but I didn't envy them.
It's better for windsurf or kite, or if you go to the Islas Rosario amazing for diving !

You can surf at the end od playa bocagrande, there is a wind surf rental there and they also have one longboard and one 6' 2"....
15000 pesos per hour.
It is better to bring your own wax, because sometimes they have it sometimes they don't.

I just came back from a trip all over Colombia and stayed in Cartagena a couple days. No waves to speak of and the people there are super annoying for the turistas. If you fly in to the airport there, just drive north through Barranquilla towards Santa Marta. All of the best waves are in Santa Marta, and I never saw one person surfing them. I wish I had my board, but I had to settle for bodysurfing. Check out tayrona park, it's got a lot of beachbreaks and some gnarly looking waves breaking over rocks.

Hey just wondering if anyone knows about the surf on the Pacific side of Columbia, vs the Caribbean side. Also what time of year is good? Is it similar to Panama? Any information would be helpful.
