your other option is nica where it is 20-30% cheaper and the waves are 150% better...i stay on the beach at popollo for $15 a day easy ( i eat a lot of fish ) pargo (opakapaka) are right in the surf...bait (ama ama) in the lagoon...a sm. throw net, bucket and a hand reel ( yo-yo ) keep me fed and i trade fish for everything from a bed to a chica...i also do surf lessons for gringos in places like samara, jaco and san juan del sur and have made as much as $150 in a day...you can also book local tours ( zip lines, boat and atv tours etc. ) just be careful not to infringe on the locals I.E. give something back...laws are one thing enforcement is anorher. ciao

tamagringo? i tink not...the water was pilau last time i was there..signs on the beach like kailua after a big rain...too many people s...ing in cesspools...costa needs to get with the three part aerobic system but they don't want to admit that a hole in the ground is not sufficient...plus the waves in town are weak and crowded. it is more also expensive, lots of crackheads, cocoa beachers, etc. ...I'll e-mail you da scoop, laters

hey pssst try Nanakuli, or waianai on the west side if you are really tan and weigh at least 250#...otherwise stick to town. check out magnum ( the arabs ) they are online and can hook you up with a waikiki condo for cheap..n. shore is full up till april when the crowds leave and the surf can be the best of the year..nothing monster but awesome conditions..good luck

lol, i was gonna sai waianae as a joke but you took it first kona, hey psst, as kona said, great big waves west and north from october til april, south shore and east side april to through september, waikiki, is crowded for surf but not unsurfable, tourist everywhere if u dont mind them, and lots lots of single girls specially japanese, if you get hooked up with them they'll take care of you, prices....well it's hawaii, it's not cheap, but if you have head on shoulders get a job and life will not be as expensive, plus waikiki has a few hostels here and there
