namotu and tavarua island have rights all week to namotu left, restaraunts, and cloudbreak, if you stay at other resorts you can surf these breaks on a saturday until midday, after you sign an agreement and pay $10 to the island, other than that.. wilks, mini cloudbreak, and lighthouse rights is your only other option oh and desperations which is shit considering you have traveled all the way to fiji for a decent reef break...rendezvous have nice staff, good food, and its moderatly priced, the boat trips out are what get you $55 a go but you can surf as long as you want there is no pressure on you to come in.   Or forget all that and spend $200 on a ticket to indo, gamble your life.. and get the waves of your life?...

What NONE of you whiners understand is what the groups that run Namotu and Tavarua have done for the local people.
Wonga, the head boatman from Namotu, has just been struck by a mysterious illness that has left him paralyzed from the neck down. Scotty, the GM of Namotu, will be flying him to Sydney for the medical help he cannot get in all of Fiji. As a Namotu regular I will sending something down to help with the costs.
The groups who lease the islands do not just pay the locals to work there. They are instead putting the money into the infrastructure, health, and education of the local tribes. I have seen where the boatmen and their families live, it was an honor to be invited to share their home, and they are stoked at what they have been able to accomplish with the help of the “greedy” Americans.
