If thats true that the locals of west oz told rip curl to f**k o*f & search elsewhere then i take my hats off to them, these corporate monsters think they are over & above everyone.. but the true essence of surfing has nothing to do with money..how much of that went under the table with the indo officials..? well done west ozzies..! rip curl take your search , put it in a pipe & smoke it..!

As if Bali wasn't already congested with so many surfers, its a shame that the balinese will have to put up with the sooky bub pro surfers, how many of the circus will be staying in 5 star digs..

Not much of a "Search" but still could be fun to see a contest at Ulus or Padang. Just got back actually after 6 weeks on Bali and Java and it's crowded there no matter what...although a BIG swell hit and I got Impossibles 8-10ft and perfect, dead-low tide with only 6 guys out. Bingin only had 5 guys on it, but it was just a gnarly drop, but no barrel - just washing through.
I agree with some other posts, they should go to a different island in the spirit of "The Search". Even someplace like Deserts or Shipwrecks, Lakey's or even Nihiwatu. Actually Nihiwatu would be perfect as it's already a private wave with the new resort right there. The ASP could have jsut rented the entire resort, no one else would get screwed, the waves would be perfect & the pros would be in stylin digs.

I have to agree, 12 months of searching for bali seems very lame.. but now with this f*****d up shipwreck at Padang spilling fuel & oil from a taiwanese fishing vessel, its polluting the whole area, i think the balinese have more real concerns on there hands, it would be nice to see rip curl roll up there sleeves while they are in the area instead of running away to another location..

Yea i agree i would be pissed if i had booked that time...but if Ulu's pumps and Padang breaks it will be good to watch. It was meant to be at Macca's but changed to Ulu's. Thank fook its not on the east as it would have messed up all those waves!!! Mind u i reckon most pros will be surfing on the east as usual when they in the area. Bluepoint is booked out for the entire rip curl crew.

I used to think the Search was an awesome event. going to Arica way cool, going to Huatulco, pretty sweet, but Bali. Come on. who doesnt know about it. Specially with all the companys buying up team houses in the area etc... kinda pissed me off because we were going to be there at the exact time of the search. didnt think they would search something so commun. Glad we cancelled and are going to be in C.America instead. So dissappointing

Well looks like padang is off the list, that boat looks like it's put an end to that!! Might be entertaining to see how the top 45 would deal with a broken up ship in the line up!!??

i guess the only way in my books that RipCurl could redeem themselves is being helping with a huge clean up of the boat / oil/ everything else that is poluted from it. that would be stellar. i think thats about the only good thing to come out of this is that so many surfers will be there and could possibly help. i know if i was there i would definately be on the help of that. last thing you want is something smacking you in the middle of a tube.

If it's crowds you are worried about you shouldn't be planning a surf trip to Uluwatu to start with, the place is a circus.
