RE: Best beginners surf in Indo???

Wow. What douchey responses to a simple, fair and responsible question. You prickish "surfer dudes" have a beginner asking you where you think the best place is for them to surf and instead of directing them to a safe spot where they won't hurt you or themselves you basically tell them to figure  it out on their own. Like you did. Right. We weren't all born on the beach. Douches.

RE: Best beginners surf in Indo???

go to kuta lombok.easy to get to and everything u need i.e. rentals, accom., good beginners surf. Slower pace than bali but you'll still have plenty of international surfers to keep u company. Go to Yona's warung in Kuta near GDay Inn. Ask for Yona and he can guide you and arrange whatever u need.

RE: Best beginners surf in Indo???

I CANNOT BELIEVE the attitude of some of the people on here! Its absolutely DISGUSTING..Why be so agressive? Its agressive surfers like the total twats who have replied on here that have NO IDEA about the 'essence' of surfing! Its about having fun and the PURE ELATION of being in the water and anyone who can surf should want to share that feeling with others - NOT put them off for life.  As a last point though these people have obviously not spent a lot of time in Asia or they'd know how difficult it is to find information on destinations.  My suggestion would be Kuta Lombok-not as crowded as Kuta Bali and a choice of 2 lovely waves at Gerrupuk for begginners-my overweight 56 yr old Dad was even able to stand up on them! Hope that helps - have fun!

Really so many douches in here, if you are all so cool why are you on this website instead of searching for the adventure you don't know if you'll find round the next corner. I'm looking for tips, not for the ancient scrolls of surfing tradition...Yo ain't no rockstars. So yes, NERDS!

Thanks to the guys who provided some info.

KUTA BEACH is by far the best place for absolute beginners. Most other beaches have sharp coral reefs. There are professional Surf Schools from around $30 for a 3 hour lesson, and cheap board rentals all along the beach for once you are ready to head out to practice on your own. Full details (and a 10% Discount Voucher for the best surf schools) are in the "Indo Surf and Lingo" guidebook - www.indosurf.com.au.

RE: Best beginners surf in Indo???

I reckon Batu Karas in Central Java near Pangandaran is best for learners. The wave is mellow, predictable and very very long. There's also a great hotel right on the beach called Java Cove. I got my first proper rides here.

Another good place is Karang Haji near Cisolok village in Pelabuhan Ratu. The wave is not so long but the area is more accessible. The kids surfing the spot are really welcoming and helpful- they'll give you all kinds of tips. The nearest place to stay is Ocean Queen.

I'm not so familiar with the spots in Bali, West Java is the place for me. Have fun and good luck!

RE: Best beginners surf in Indo???

Hey Nick, you are an absolute tosser mate.  First of all you can't even spell "sea". How long have you been surfing? Did you learn how to stand up, cut back, get pitted all on your first attempt? Wankers like you shouldn't be out there, every one learns and goes through the same steps. Good on them for asking questions. Bali has a huge coastline and would be frustrating for a beginner trying to find the right spot.  As for the question I would recommend Legian, Kuta or Dreamland during dry season. Legian, Sri Lanka and Nusa Dua during the wet season. Stay out all day and you will eventually find your feet. If the wave is yours, go for it, even if you do get smashed you won't be wasting the wave so people like "Nick" don't go crying to Mummy on how someone spoilt their wave.
