RE: Any good spots close to Krui?« on: July 16 2011 00:07:00 »
True, the point can get crowded, but i was there last year and had plenty of waves. Also, if you go looking, you can find waves that dreams are made of! I found myself out at one spot where double overhead heaving barrels rolled through an empty line up!

Just want to drop a quick reply about South Sumatra... there has already been a lot of info given and most of it is true, but to keep everyone up to speed... Andy the Yank is gone, gone, gone. Karang Nyimbor Hotel now has a new owner and agent, As those that have already stay there know, it is one of the best places to stay on Unjung Bocur Point. Check it out
and send an email if you want any more info. It is a great wave and there are other waves around the area... it is a beautiful part of the world with friendly locals; well worth a look!

Not all the waves are listed on websites. there are some near ujung bocur that no one surfs as most dont get much swell. however one is usually too big heavy and shallow. i surfed this wave by myself most of the time or with a friend. its similar at the takeoff to speedies at g-land but closes out a lot, the good ones dont close out and pit for 4-6 seconds but are 1 in 5 on the right swell.
There are waves like this all over the place that people wouldnt realise are a "Wave". best barrels i had in the area were here. i hope it hasnt gotten a crowd yet but i doubt anyone will bother to paddle out. Theres another wave way south that i always wanted people to paddle out but no one did. swell magent too.Wind magent too though.

I have spent near on two month in the area this season photographing not one surf but village life too. Over that period, there were times that SOME breaks got busy but that was usually Krui and mainly when the point was double overhead. 30 people surfing Krui left because its only 3 foot which left the point to guys AND girls to rip on uncrowded.
I stayed at Lovinas for a month at a time and me and a group that were there for 10 days spent a lot of time exploring past the normal breaks and found great waves.
I dont think its as crowed now as it sounds back in 2011
