The mistral can affect the weather in North Africa, Sicily and Malta or throughout the Mediterranean, particularly when low pressure areas form in the Gulf of Genoa

Right on. That's probably the swell we get in Crete. It's probably the only non-wind dependent swell in the country...

Best place is Varazze, Savona.
There is also Tuscany and Sardegna.
