How are you going to get there? I'm looking at going as well, will probably drive up from PE.
Those bull and tiger sharks are sounding less and less friendly!!

Hi guys,

Just stumbled upon this page - I'm actually a shark biologist - but just so you don't get the wrong idea, Tofo Beach isn't a particularly 'sharky' area at all. Lots of whale sharks, but most people don't mind sharing the backline with plankton-feeders. The only tiger shark I've seen in the area has been a ~60 cm newborn after over a year of surfing, diving and researching sharks in the area. Not something you need to worry about.

Anyway, back on topic, Tofo Beach itself lost a lot of sand over last summer and conditions were pretty woeful the last time I was there in May. Further north along the beach towards Barra Point, and south at Tofinho should still be fine.

Cheers guys, have fun!

Hi All, I'm heading up to Mozambique, Xai Xai to be precise, for the first two weeks of January. I'm going to be spinning if I don't get at least a couple days of surf. Is Xai Xai surfable? I haven't been able to find much evidence of surf on the net so I'm wondering if anyone stopped by Xai Xai and found a wave. I'm driving up from Port Elizabeth...  there's apparently a long stretch off beach... would be great if there's a beachbreak with some fun waves... (would be utterly crap if there was nothing!!!)... any info will be appreciated. Happy surfing!

Hey Dave,
I m coming down from Malawi, so my first stop would probably be Tofo. But the better waves I think are further down south!?
What is your plan???
I m pretty flex. Would be cool to meet somewhere to sort out how things work!!!
I ll be in moz. around new year.

Hi Max,

I'm going to be bound to surfing Xai Xai. I'm traveling with my girlfriend and her folks so am limited in that way to Xai Xai. Really am hoping there is a wave in the area. I believe Xai Xai is further South so that may be a good thing. I'll be there from roughly the 4th of Jan until the 12th. It's a 2 day trip from where I am in SA. I believe Tofinho is an excellent spot so you should get waves there. I'll be checking this site daily even while in Mozambique so stay in touch - we might meet up :)

Cheers
Dave
