In the Far North we wear only boardshorts for 4 to 5 months of the year at best. A 2mm shortie for another 2-3 months either side of summer ( and on cold wind days) and a full elngth steamer (2mm or 3/2mm) for about 4 months. With this set of rubber you are totally comfortable.
It is all relative too, I surfed Queensland and after a year I started to think I needed a full suit! I also lived in the tropics and started to feel chilly in the water there after about a year.
Heaps of the surfers up north head to the tropics in our winter anyway or go snowboarding. As aresult the waves are even less crowded. Good luck with the allergy thing, otherwise you're tropics bound if you want 365 days of boardies. Something of a conundrum for you.

Have you tried the Matuse wetsuits? Their made out of Geoprene instead of Neoprene?
