I have good news and bad news.  We are opening a small surf camp.  We will only accomadate small groups of guided packages as we do enjoy surfing ourselves and do not want to fill the line ups everywhere.  We will have rooms to rent for those going it their own way.  If done right, places like ours can help the lineups by providing a source to locate the breaks that are off the beaten path and provide much needed jobs to the local community.  Development will happen.  We can only hope that it is done correctly to avoid the many pitfalls others have fallen in to.  If you want to check us out you can @ nicaraguasurftrip.com.  Best wishes to all and always remember why we enjoy the love of surfing.

The best waves are in the north of San juan del sur near Rivas. The best place to find the empty waves is Playa Gigante. Momo surf camp and Dale surf camp are perfect for that !!!! Contact us if you really want to surf Nicaragua

My little bro graduated this past year from highschool and joined the navy, he leaves in November.  He wanted to take a surf trip someone and settled on Nic, so me and my other brother are sending him where he picked.  I know zippo about the area, just look for some heads-up for my little bro.

i also agree, it's amazing how these folks try and market thier surf camp by telling you that they have found paradise and want to ' share ' it with others. B.S. they should say that they have no other viable means of support and are opening a surf camp in hopes of making a living.

Paddy, I surfed in Casares last year at the beachbreak and got some really fast & hollow head high surf. The place like the rest of Nica is real tide sensitive and there is an outer reef there that looks like it would fire on a big South.
Good luck !!

If you want my humble opinion then try the south coast (as in the rivas province). a few years ago (august/september time) some buddies and I spent 3 weeks penetrating the unchartered territory to the north of corinto in a 4x4, a boat (chartered in coirinto) and on foot. We went as far north as we could, perusing over maps, scouring every inch of coastline and - even in a solid 5ft swell and pristine offshore winds - found nothing but close outs. to add insult to (financial) injury we only later found out that had we taken a (public!) bus south along nica's rugged coastline towards san juan del sur, there is an unbelievable assortment of sick breaks, from long snaking points to short punchy reefs that jack up out of nowhere! happy hunting! p.s. for details see stormrider vol.2

The only reason that dale dagger works out of gigante is cause locals detest him... hes known as a perv. and a pedofile, taking advantage of nicas poor law regulations and tons of young and poor women trying to make money. maybe theyer just rumors but us locals dont care for him or anyone with him... no respect!!
We dont care about jj as long as he stays in the south, along with all the other surf camps...
If you come north, come on your own...

What a kook!  You are talking such garbage bro.  JJ and Lance are very cool people. JJ has some good deals on proprty and Lance is the funnest guy to hang with ever. Whats the matter, did the outer reef scare puss boy. Nica is cool, people are nice, and there are plenty of waves solo if you look around.  Stay away barney
