RE: Best way to do Nicaragua« on: February 13 2012 21:02:00 »
I'm going alone in Nicaragua (or Costa Rica/both) on Feb 23rd till March 15th. I'll be landing in Liberia (cheapest airport for me, I'm leaving from Montreal). Its quite a last minute trip (decided today to leave so I have 2 weeks to figure out whats the plan) Have you found any place to stay so far? Someone would recomand a nice spot to go in CR or Nicaragua in these dates? (I'm an "advance" beginner, surfed like 20-25 times in the last 3 years and I don't think I'll bring my board so if anyone have any tips on where I could get some good rentals let me know!)

In costa rica Witch's Rock Surf Camp is amazing. I just was there a few weeks and am looking into a trip back, and hitting up nicaragua as well. They are great instructors, you wake up and are right on the beach, and everyday you go to whatever spot the waves are best at by boat or van. They have great deals for people traveling alone, airport shuttles, unlimited board use, etc. Amazing trip there- highly recommend it. They may be booked full on such short notice, but it doesn't hurt to check. One girl I met there has been there 6 times and already booked another trip in November, so clearly they are doing things right. Also- if you mention I referred you, they will put 50$ on your bar tap for food/booze at joes (part of the camp). Hope you have a great trip!

I was at Witches Rock a few months ago, and unless they had a major renovation in the mean time, I thought the places was very very dated. basic stinky accommodation with too much eco wildlife insects in my room.

It all depends on what are you expecting when you are in Nicaragua? You can bring some staff for your trip or the whole household ..
Hope that helps..

Popoyo is a dump of a town, mediocre close out wave, onlt the outer reef is good when it's big. Got my stuff stolen from my room. Ain't going back there ever again
