I only use a longboard through flat spells for a bit of sanity and to keep the paddle fitness up. As soon as its shortboardable that pig goes back in the rafters. Longboarders who patrol more than one break or who continually take set waves at lully points should shave their shoulders ,get a tupee and stay home with their life partner.

Ran, I ride boards from 5'-5" to 11'-6" depending on the place I surf . When I surf somewhere new I never paddle straight to the peak , I wait until everyone gets their waves and maybe a few more. It's common courtesy to other surfers to do this , and gives some respect to the local surfers on their home break. If new surfers come to my places the same applies , they're either good surfers or they're not . Good surfers, no matter what they ride, will never want every set wave, just becuase they ride a paddling machine, and get the early take-off .......when your wave comes, man, it's yours !..............I got friends over 60 years old (with hairy shoulders),who still travel to Hawaii's North Shore every winter to surf big waves. .. They been doin it all their lives................

I'm with you ran, there is a place for long boarders, but i really don't think it's Pipe (maybe in the 60's). Maybe for beginners or people with disabilities they can be useful. If you are a good surfer and the waves are not to small, short boards are the go. If the waves are tiny and not suitable for real modern time surfing, then you can consider getting on a longboard. Other than that, they would make good park benches for the homeless.

Daryl ,you certainly are a "human posting machine" . I ride what I like , when I like ! I been around a lot longer than you, and I have earned the right to do so,and I don't care what you ride . Patience is the key to Pardise.

you are both right and wrong at the same time pat and anti-mal.......to anti-mal: common man you let your negative crap get into your head, just let it fly by, i mean i been riding for 15 years and i ride anything, i body board, long board, short board, skim board etc, so as a true water person we should be able to do everything and no matter what have fun, yes true there are too many wannabees that sometimes u just feel like punching out lol i agree, but there are many people like myself that rides anything just to have fun, dude i got 4 longboards, 6 short boards 4 body boards, its all about the conditions, hey sometimes i just go body surf so....

A lot of shortboarders who go on about this tend to be small skinny guys who got picked on at school and still have a complex about being a small man.
If you are a man of muscular hunk proportions (not fat), a longboard or longer board is a good thing.

and Pat:.....you are right too much negative from anti-mal yes and maybe he should chill out or just go rides awesome place where the wannabees are not around and i was sort of with you until you mentioned PIPE.....oh wow.....longboards pat? you serious? hmm.....any real surfers or atleast that have been around we shouldnt even bother on that comment but somehow we can't help it, i live on oahu i surf pipe, ehukai, waimea and sunset often, believe me hehe longboards are not here often, i live on the south side of oahu and yes in waikiki u see plenty longboarders, unless you are bonga perkins or one of them guys keep longboards away from pipe and even them dont bring out their longboards on a typical pipe day with solid 20 footers backs...aloha

Niko, yeah, maybe I was stretchin it a bit far with pipe ,but there's no shortage of footage about longboards at pipe-----Bonga Perkins, Kanoa Darlin, Rusty K,Dave Kalama etc......that's awesome surfing !! I just think the Philippines needs to be aware of what surfing is........The ASP circuit is good surfing, for sure, but it is such a tiny little part of what surfing is , there is so much more... PI has good waves ,some world class,in time they will have their own history, created by their own surfers.....I would not like to see them influenced by the narrow, tunnell vision of some, who just don't get it....
