I am living in hawaii, and i can tell you, as a beginner (i have been surfing since 6 months, and now i m every surfing day at diamond head -i m the guy with the white/gray/blond hair lol-)
you can surf anywhere !!!!!!!!!!, just be carefull, know your capabilities and respect the others in and out the water, with that you can surf anywhere.
oh and don t go to waikiki to learn, it s maybe the worst, especially in summer.
