People treat you how you treat them. Be respectful, simple as that. People in Hawaii are great, just like those on the mainland. It's always better when you are kind.

Mmm question is what is “give respect, get respect”. My understanding was always not to drop in/ sneak/ stay outside surf line/ share the fun/ be nice...
Seems at Hawaii it has a different definition- you basically just have to sit and wait for locals to take any wave they want, no matter If they just paddled back, sneak in.. and surf whatever is left.
You either accept it or surf elswhere - but you can give a hard time to any Hawaiian who is dare to surf your local spot...? A bit sad story but I guess it is what it is
