RE: shark population in costa rica

It's not the sharks you need to watch out for, it's the crocodiles.  Yep, they are there.  While waiting for a boat to carry me across a rivermouth, I saw a local tossing sticks in the water,  asking what he was doing, he told me he was looking out for crocodiles, apparently they will snap at the sticks.  Watch out and don't swim like a stick!

Simple test for sharks:
Put your finger in the water.  Taste your finger.  If it is salty, there are sharks.  Aloha!

RE: shark population in costa rica

I just looked up the "international shark attack" website that someone provided in this Link. They have no deaths reproted for Costa Rica, and no reported non-fatal attacks in the last 100 years! The closest was Mexico in the 1970's.

RE: shark population in costa rica

I am very stoked I found this website. I am moving to C.R in March and want to get really good at surfing, which means, spending a lot of time in the ocean. I did get stung by a lame Jelly Fish. I will take that over a shark anyday.
