I stayed at Playa Hermosa, Central Pacific for 4 months, i recommend you rent a room at Fischer Bros hotel, i think the site is www.fbsurfboards.com they have nice and clean rooms, with a communal kitchen, great atmosphere, and its only at 2 minutes walk from the beach!
i rented for $300 a month

Fairly cheap. Obviously if you don't speak Spanish or know locals you will pay more. Inside Jaco they know they can charge the gringos more. I prefer surfing Dominical just cause it is more relaxed and i seems many of the local surfers from the states have moved out there as well. Weather is perfect from Jan to April. Bugs bite pretty bad at dusk at playa hermosa... so be forewarned. Email me at smebbin (at) gmail dot com if anyone needs more info or contact numbers prior to their trip.
