The best places to surf in Panama are Santa Catalina or Bocas del Toro.  If you go to Santa Catalina, the surf is best at medium to high tide.  Whatever you do, DO NOT stay at the Punta Brava Resort, owned by Jose Crespo.  The locals basically "prey" on clients of Punta Brava, so if you stay there, you get snaked and hassled in the surf by the locals.  Also, the food at Punta Brava Resort is terrible, and the owner Jose Crespo is a total flake and picked us up from the airport like 5 hours late, then drove like a madman on the highway and almost got us all killed.

Santa Catalina has the best and most consistent surf in Panama, and April is one of the best months for south swells.  Bocas is also good in April, but less consistent.  If you go to Santa Catalina, the best place to stay is Oasis at Estero beach, Surfers Paradise right on the main point, or Cabanas Rolo in town.  DO NOT stay at Punta Brava, the owner Jose Crespo is a total fruitcake, picked our group up 5 hours late at the airport, almost killed us on the road, and the food at his place was lame... also the locals hassled us for staying at his place cuz they all hate the guy.

Bocas Del Toro is always in the 2-6 foot range in March and early april. The surf is not as big then but all the beach breaks go off during this time. There is more sand on the beaches and better defined sand bars. This is mt business to know about surf. Check us out at www.redfrogbungalows.com. Last year in april I guided a trip to Penisula Valiente and we snapped 3 boards in 2 hours. Perfect A-frames
