Before the curved sand bar was lined with huts and homes all the way to the point. The river meandered behind the houses and entered into the Davao Gulf at the far end. The meandering river had formed perfect sand bar. We discovered this spot last year. The form of the wave was perfect, but we hadn't had a decent swell to prove our find. Now, almost a year to the day, we had a solid overhead swell rolling around the point.

I spoke with two elder fishermen leaning on their boats about the damage. I asked if they knew if the high seas were coming. "yeah, we knew it was coming, we moved our boats up the river and onto dry land, but we can't move our homes. Nowhere to go." It felt wrong to be even contemplating going surfing. I stood back and looked around. The threat of the damage was over.

Wow... that's a lengthy article. yeah, it's true... but hey, surfers are hardy people. plus, yeah, no one can explain the zen of surfing... no matter how dangerous the waters are, surfers will surely test mother nature's power...

lots of people lost their homes and their lives due to habagat... that's another story...

as to surfing, we surf for life, we surf for fun, we surf coz we do not know anything better to keep our lives focused.

cheers mobster... good find for the article.

hey, mob, i have a problem though, my board broke last season... do you know anyone who could sell me a funboard. my budget is 9k.  thanks.

Im an aggressive bodyboarder am I considered a surfer? the biggest wave I've ever on to is a good 15 footer during el nino and some times my buddies and I go to MEXICO. we get good swells here every winter no crowd, we have the beach for our selfs. Im planning on going to the motherland late september till early october to keep in touch with my roots.
