I just came back from the gambia.
it's possible to surf in gambia... I've seen waves with a hight of 2.5 meters (good for surfing)
but the problem is t you can not hire a surfboard in the whole nation of gambia so you have to take your surfboard with you..
hope you'll have a nice time

off to Gambia on 6 April for a few months to help set up an eco-village retreat promoting responsible tourism. Didn't bring my own board but does anyone know if it is possible to hire or buy one there?Know the last post sid you had to take your own but desperately hoping to get my hands on a board!
Otherwise anyone heading to south Gambia in the next two months that I could meet up with and go for a surf with?

I have seen some boards at a couple of hotels so I think it might be possible to rent. I am not too sure about choice though. You will have to take pot luck.
The Ocean has been completely windblown recently so it is very choppy.
I have not seen that many surfers riding waves here mainly bodyboarders as the breaks are nearly all beach breaks. Some of the swells that pass through here are huge so you might be lucky to get a good drop, a quick turn and then its gonna close out on you. I am still searching for the perfect break here.
Funnily enough, the best rides I have had have been during winter here at dawn patrol.
I am thinking f spending some time in Dakar at the beginning of May as they seem to have the best breaks (Ngor, Oukam etc) anyone been there?
