Hey girls,
Im a young female myself travelling the globe working as an english teacher and in secret hope to find that perfect wave(after living here in thailand anything will do!) I travel around with my husband. And I honestly dont see how young girls can travel around on their own. If my husband just goes to the toilet and Im left alone for 5minutes Ill be harrassed. Just remember when your in a country where your in the monority (like if your white and your in Asia) you are extremly vulnerable. Not saying dont do it, but just always have that little plan B and somewhere safe to go. I wouldn't trust just meeting up with someone on this forum either that says they're a girl travelling alone and need a buddy (i dont need to tell you why, you seem like bright girls)

I live there and rele I duno about the surfin too much but I noe that there are soooooooooo mani horny beach boys out there from experience and they all seem rele 'friendly' at first but dunt talk to them too much. It mite sound mean but if u ugo to Hikka I wouldnt talk to too many locals there that u meet at the beach, women ok but 'men'.. and seriously.. I mean look at how mani sri lankan guys already wana meet u! so i wud say GO! i mean I love sri lanka.. but take a guy or at least another girl...

You must be kidding.  You actually gave out your account number on the net.  Wow.  Why not post your mother's maiden name also, or whatever answer you use for your security question?  If I were you, I would ask the administrator to remove your post before your account gets stripped of all funds.

Anyway just to let ppl know that i went so cheers for the advice. it was awesome!U just have to have ur head screwed on and live by general safety rules. Also, dont take any shit from anyone!!!! I would advise any single girl reading this to maybe begin in a more touristy spot like unawatuna (which I found one of the most safe feeling) or arugam bay to get a feel for the place and people and then maybe find some other travelers there to carry on with. If u go to Arugam bay, 2 lovely places to stay are Lanhiru Place (a small set of cabanas next to Rupas run by Ravi and canti...one of the cheapest but also one of the nicest and most homely I think you could find!) or sooryas (run by the legendary Ram...an old tamil man who has a beard down to his belly button..chilled as f**k!).

It's fine to go on your own I travelled on my own (3 yrs ago now) took my surf board, best place was Hikadua, not sure of the correct spelling.  Candy is nice, best way is to hire a driver you see more in a quicker amt. of time, really cheap too.
Have fun, oh you may get checked at various check points they do have guns but nothing to worry they are friendly.
