RE: cheap accomodation weatern samoa

Do not stay at Maninoa Surf camp.  They charge a lot for what you get, and because the camp is not run by a family, it has the worst possible service you can imagine.  The surf location is good, but the boats generally go top[laces you can easily access by a paddle from other accommodation anyway.
Sina PJ Fales in Tafitoal was excellent, a true family and village experience, ifyou dont mind pigs, chickens and locals thenI fhighlyrecomend it.  They are freindly too.

I fully rated Sina PJ Fales, the Samoa Turism Authority can hook you up with them.
Actually, The Samoa Tourism Authority deserves a rating too, they seem to be able to get in touch with people when you cant!

RE: cheap accomodation weatern samoa

John,

Thanks for all of the great suggestions in the posts above.  I'm about to pull the trigger on a trip to the Salani surf camp in October.  Do you have any good or bad comments on Salani?  Also, I've surfed San Diego for 24+ years but never been lucky enough for more than one or two barrels a year.  I'd like to log some barrel time for once in my life.  Are the waves in front of salani surf camp barrel *beginner* friendly?  Or at least offering of a little learning curve by sitting a little more on the shoulder?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Carl

sina pj great and cheap. good surfing options, lovely family, i stayed with my wife and kids, we all loved it. get a car to make the most of surf - dont miss out on boulders if it is on, nor salani... both swimming distance. two surf camps are good but expensive, the other is fairly shite and overcrowds the breaks so avoid breaks nearby it in peak times ie AUS / NZ school holidays. there are a couple of off shore breaks well worth a boat trip if wind is SE, better surf camps can sort you out on daily basis if they are not fully booked(alternatively take a very long swim and hope you dont hurt yourself out there). ahi poke salad at coconuts delicious. much love to malai and his family at sina pj

Hey mate
I was wondering whether the budget hotel 'virgin cove' is a great place to stay for surfing. I will be hiring out a car but i am not aware of the surf around the area of the hotels location. Any surf spots in walking distance from this hotel? I also wanted to know whether u can get boat rides during the day to outter reef break, and if so how much?

Thanks

Forget  Upolu and go to American Samoa; breaks north, west , and south.; except for sharks and tuna-cannery waste, Pago Pago is the loveliest harbor (with quality point-like reef that burns left for 200 yds.!) in the Pacific; locals are cool, just bring cans of corned beef; when someone paddles for a wave, throw the can and they'll back off; it;s like chumming for sharks, and, you get all the waves!

The letter from Queer was insulting and degrading and he and his like are not welcome here; our health issues were brought upon us by the U.S. Navy; if they fed us enuf shit, they could takeover our paradise; but, we sabotaged the tram and now will kick out the rest; keep your subsidized welfare and killing fields food, and, never show your white face and red hair at Nua! The Amanagave boys have served you!
