OBX North Carolina is pretty good. The waves aren't great all the time but the houses are incredibly affordable to rent and it's about a 16 hour drive, fun times if you have a group of friends. Surfline.com has good reviews of all the different beaches on the coast there. I've gone the last two years for about 400 Canadian dollars per week. That's after fuel, house, board rental, food and booze.

Just tried the wave at Bate's Island. Wave is too small and painfully cold in a 3mm. I think I'll go buy some mitts!

Haha, is this the Tom from the TO surf club post? I was only in the river for two tries and then literally couldn't drive myself home only because of my hands. Got some gloves now, back out there tomorrow or Thursday probably.

I saw some thing on a site called river surfing,
where they use a bungee cord and a small board like a wake board/skim board thing, they tie the bungee round a tree or on a bride and the river takes them down it, the bunge flexes and pulls them back so they surf all the way back.
It looks really dangerous and they wear helmets.
Anyone else heard of this? Its no joke!

I've seen videos of that. It kind of reminds me of tying my self to a boat and getting towed behind it. Wait a minute...
Haha, yeah it looks pretty dangerous and not really as fun as real surfing.

there are waves in the lakes down near Kingston and further in Toronto. If you're die hard though check our the river surfing. The river hasn't been too big in Ottawa this year from what I understand so I've only been body boarding so far. It's still pretty fun, and it could be ridden with a long board, it's just easy to break the fibreglass ones. Montreal is 2 hours away from Ottawa and offers the best river waves around as well as courses on how to do it. Otherwise, get some friends and book a trip to North Carolina, Halifax, or anywhere in between for ocean waves.
