obviously you havent been north of the south coast. you have no idea. The north of the UK gets bigger surf than anywhere in France. I have seen it. Go to the outer hebrides or other certain places on NW and North coast. also Orkney. has been 30 ft, hawaii style waves. Not Jaws size but still 30-40ft before (and holding its shape!). plenty of 20ft places quite often up here. you just dont no where to look - best it stays this way, so dont bother heading north of cornwall.

Why do people put anonymous names up here especially if they want to slag off Cornwall and South coast too?
I live in Scotland, there are idiots everywhere, Cornwall, Scotland etc. But there are nice people too.
Yes agreed you get idiots every year coming to the north coast or hebrides usually in the summer. But a lot of cool people too. Often the idiot are from Scotland itself.
Why dont we up north stop playing 'the we're nice guys up here' card and accept were all surfers.
Yes, big waves here but its not the pacific. I still reckon north coast Spain, France gets more big waves more often, better quality. Thats what I think but then again im not going to go out on a 20 foot face yet, 12 foot at most so guess that makes me a pussy?

right...here we go im gonna give u how it is!!
im a surfer from scotland, many years ive been riding waves. ive surfed, france, spain, portugal, north/central/south america, australasia...
as far as uk is concerned, yes scotland does get the biggest swells, thats for sure. the problem being that a lot of these waves are extremely hard to ride due to crazy wild ass conditions. as for france, i would say they do prob get even bigger and more rideable waves...just their positioning in the world i guess. and as they say in france....c'est la vie!
but to hell with that s***....u wanna prove ur manhood in surfin?? F*** hawaii...come surf with me and the dark waterz in scotland!!

thats well put. I just moan as I live an hour and half away from the north coast and I always get jinxed with bad conditions.

scotlands waves can be the biggest in europe. it needs the correct conditions. It takes the most swell from the stormiest and most active ocean in the world - the north atlantic. France/spain/portugal(france being the worst tho coz its just beach breaks) have more reliable surf and better conditions. However, when scotland is firing in certain spots that hardly anyone knows about it is JUST AS BIG than anywhere on the continent. Again it needs perfect conditions for this tho which is not as often as portugal etc. Like the other dude said tho - its gnarly up here!

its failry cold on the ears here my friends....ul need a 5:3 westsuit all year round. from oct - march ul prob need gloves, boots and hat depending on the raise. thereafter the summer months ul be cool in the cheeky 5:3 with no other accessories!! apart from a set of big bawzz...
good boards...dunno, depends on your location and conditions and style. id say anything from 6' - 6'8! shirt boards

no wetsuits have been invented yet that are thick enough for the cold scottish water, best you stay down in england.
