I want to go to this island as i hear there are lots of white rhino and hippos.
I dont have any white rhino heads on my wall yet.
Anyone know if you can buy rhino guns in Indonesia?

Hunting

Yeah mate the hunting on panaitan is pretty good.
Im not sure about hippos but there are a few white rhinos you can hunt and kill.
We shot a pamther when i was staying there, huntings a pretty good flat spell alternative.
You can get a good rifle or sot gun in Jakarta.
Or in Bali too.
I bought a good rifle from a guy in seminyak who i met while checking middles on Kuta beach, he sells crossbows mainly but also lots of other weapons.

Boycott expoitative business..

Its such a shame to have to be affiliated with money hungry c*nts such as those that are utilising the easy living and labour of Indo to satisfy their own capitalist dreams - most of them seem to be my fellow Australians - to them I say F*ck Off!

To those engaged or even sympathetic to the causes of conservation and social justice in the oppressed and corrupt society of Indonesia - I tip my hat, your generosity and empathy is needed.

It is good to hear that there are still surfers who acknowledge the fact that surfing is intrinsically tied to our natural environment, and that it acts as an escape from the often depressing reality of business and corruption.

Oh yeah - count me in on the Hippo hunting!

Tom,
The set up in Sumba is totally different.
Nihiwatu has built schools, provided fresh water for locals, employs 120 people, has a great malaria clinic, and has established a medical program for the area. This has all been done without shitting on the local culture.
In sumba the local culture is unique, and while the area is beautiful, it is not environmentally significant. Panaitan is world heritage and unihabited, so you get the environmental damage without any benifits to the locals.
Seriously, go to Sumba and tread very lightly.
If you see what the Sumbanese are up against and the benifits Nihiwatu provides, you may just get a different perspective.

to the people encouraging  this champ to stay at the surf camp there i think you are all being mislead by some evil and exploiting aussie who owns it...why should we give our money to some greedy person who moves in there, burns  down the forest, planning to build a large mariner potentially affecting one of the islands best waves, brings in foreign aninmals into a fragile ecosystem  and claims the rights to the wave?? imagine if someone from indo did that oevr here in oz..surf you may feel more "secure" in a nice air conditioned room with a nice pink cocktail in the arvo but as the other dude stated grow some courage and stand tall..if no one goes there than his not going be able to keep it operating... whos he to say we have to be staying at his camp before we can surf in the ocean??
