Melinda. I stayed at Villa Aquitania. it was very nice but not where I would stay next time. It was basically a very nice house with a beach out front. Not much at all to do at night and we ended up drving to zunzal to party alittle. I would suggest zunzal area for a mellower vibe and more travelers around to hang with. also el zonte where there is a small hotel/surf camp called esencia nativa run by alex and his wife. very cheap and friendly area and fun mellow surf spot out front. if you are not looking for four seasons, this place seemed really cool. I had some beers there one night and all the guests (10 people) were all having a nice little party on the patio outside. we stayed pretty late. it was fun.

If you are staying at casa de mar, I wouldn't worry too much about a digital camera. I would take it to take pics of the surf and the kids. what I wouldn't do is flash it everywhere. especially in La libertad. zunzal seemed like a much mellower area compared to La Libertad proper. I went with wavehunters and punta mango surf trips. My guides name was manzano, he was super cool and took very good care of us.

just always be careful, lots of banditos around in some parts.

Really, I only see very expensive prices in the writings. For those who can´t afford such US$40 prices, is there any tip? Anyplace where you can camp safely in Sunzal Area? I´m planning do stay 6 months in central america with 25 dollars per day... Hope is possible.
Regards...

My wife and I went to El Salvador for a recent surf trip.  Stayed at Roca Sunzal hotel for a couple of days.  (Don't expect anything fancy- just a basic room for sleeping and a/c)  As a CAUTION, I will tell you that on the second day, while I was surfing, my wife was by herself on the beach taking video of the surf when some punk kid, about 15, ran off with her bag which was behind her about 10 yards and stole it.  An armed security guard from another hotel was right there but could do nothing.  Advise:  Don't leave anyone alone on the beach.  EVER.  (If you get a chance go to the mountains for beautiful sight seeing. I recommend Mira Mundo in La Palma. No one robbed us there! :-)  Have fun.

Where are you located in El Salvador? What are your rates for two people for one week in September 2005?

I lived in El Salvador for two years, this will be my 3rd time going back next month, Aug.15 for a week.  Sunzal is close to La Libertad.  it is probably a 5 or 10 min bus or taxi ride.  La Libertad is the name of the state there are a lot of good places to surf, try Playa San Diego there are not many people there.  I am from Southern California and can't wait to go back.
