I've been to La Libertad three times, twice while I was in the Peace Corps in Honduras and once just about a week ago. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay I would highly recommend Posada Familiar. It is right next to the best surf rental/ board repair place in La Libertad. The Posada Familiar has rooms with air and a private bathroom for about 15 dollars a night or you can one with a fan for about half that. It really safe, they have a guard there all night. There are hammocks outside the rooms and a private restaurant. It also less than half a block from the beach so you don't have to worry about leaving things on the beach. If you have any other questions let me know.

hey dont worry there are heaps of tourists here already, too many in fact, 30 people in the water mid week at 6am. If you are a girl be VERY careful walking around the point, some baddddddd people here. You will be okay staying here by yourself but go with someone around the point.

San Visente is very safe. Like every where else in the worrl. It has it good and bad areas. In general, it is very nice. As a Salvadorean, the only suggestion I can give her is to make aure she stay away from wearing any jewlery. Other than that, she will be fine.

I just have to say that if you have that attitude, you'll never enjoy anything in life. Of course there is crime there. There is crime everywhere. You just have to use common sense to avoid it. I'm a Salvadorean and I recent comments like that because it creates a bad impression of ES. There has been a lot of improvement in the last decade and it's very safe if you know how to get around and use common sense.

Meredith,we are going over Memorial day weekend, plenty of good surf spots, my 3rd trip to E.S. we pass on Punta Roca but go to all the others. Beautiful beaches like Sunsal, K59-61, Zonte,Mizata. The area El Cuco has excellent breaks punta mango, las flores, la vaca and a few others.Puenta roca is a dumpy area with a great point break, but the entire country has great point breaks. Have fun
