Julie and Daryl have made a lot of changes to the resort since the Israeli couple have ceased managing, and the place is very welcoming and friendly. I stayed there for nearly 3 weeks and had a great time.
Diving was excellent - Daryl really knew his stuff and got you in the best positions for the shark dive.

Chris, Cap and Ben took me out surfing and scurfing - brill - we went to Resorts, Frigates (when there was only 4 of us - 3 diving and 1 surfing) and Serua - Chris and Cap were really good at putting you in the waves at the right point, reading the break etc etc Ben looked out for you when you were getting smashed about in the white water - very helpful for me!! Cap has been surfing probably over 40yrs+ - mainly in hawii - so he knows his stuff and really helps you out if you need it.
Daryl took me out fishing with him and his crew as well and let me take the spear gun down for a spot of spear fishing out at Frigates - never done it before - but it was a good laugh despite my poor ability in spearing fish!

The food menu has changed a lot as i understand it since the Israeli owners were managing the place. The food is good, they grow a lot of it at the resort, you don't go hungry and they are very accommodating if you have special dietary requirements. This is not flash french quisine, but good old hearty food...just what you need after surfing and diving all day.
Accommodation was nice, nothing fancy, but nice and comfortable. Ceiling fans in the rooms which seemed to do the trick.

If you are wanting a massage during your stay, Julie will organise for someone to come down to the resort to do one for you, however if you are after a pile of spa treatments during your stay and little or no surf/dive/fishing then this is probably not the resort for you (and to my mind...you will miss the best of what Fiji has to offer).
It has a very nice family feel to it and everyone that visited the resort during my stay seemed very impressed with it because of that friendly welcome and the relaxed atmosphere. I also met people who came down to the resort from The Outrigger and The Pearl - both of which were slightly disappointed with their resort due to the lack of activities you could do from the resort.

From what i saw, much of Fiji is Resort based, so it is key you pick a resort that offers you the activities you wish to do otherwise you will find yourself spending a lot of money on taxis (and believe me the tourist rate for those is not cheap).
If you want a flashy resort then i thought The Warwick seemed nice from my visit there. They did have a dive shop there (but it is too far to go to the famous Tiger Shark dive from there, unlike Waidroka) and i'm sure they will take you out surfing too - i just couldn't tell you what breaks they would take you to. But they had a great Japanese restaurant there in the resort.

All in all, Daryl and Julie have put together a good team of local Fijians supported by themselves and Cap and his wife Lo, who moved from Hawaii to Fiji a couple of years ago.
......and no i'm not related to any of them

As long as the israeli's are still owning the resort, I cannot reccomend anyone staying there, they are the rudest folks i have ever met.
And I am sure the new managers will very soon be coming to the same conclusion.
I am happy for the above guest. who i guess had a good time there. My money isn't going to them though, since it means it means some of tmy money will go to that awefull couple.

Waidroka is under new management now and will run trips out to frigates when there are three people or more willing to go. For me this included two divers and me surfing. It was awesome. Derryl and Julie the new managers are great people and always were having fun. This place is obviously different then when you were there. I surfed frigates 5 times all 6 foot plus with less than 5 people. It was awesome!

Does every person that books this resort now have to talk good about Derryl and Julie on this forum to get a discount at Waidroka??
Anyway, good to hear they got their shit together at the resort , i wad there 2 years ago and the owner of the joint, was a very unpleasant fella. Gottta say though that Surfing Frigates did put a big smile on my face.
