Hi, a group of my friends and I were planning on going on a surf trip to Samoa in September, wondering if anyone can give us a little more info into Maninoa and the surf guide that some on here say is a great guy, and others say be careful of him?? We're travelling to Fiji also, 5 of us girls.. Still keen to head to Samoa, just doing a little more research first! Any info would be much appreciated!! Thanks :)

hello to everyone who gets to read this. I am writing on here to set some of these stories straight, I am Farani.. The surf guide that is mentioned in the above posts. I do my best to accommodate every single guests needs, I am not just a surf guide, I am a surfer just like you guys so I ALWAYS look for the best waves and i take you to them, depending on the weather and swell conditions. I feel that we have an amazing country, amazing surf and amazing people in Samoa, so to those of you that say Maninoa is a dump, please think of all of the staff and locals that do their best every day to make your holiday as special as they can. Maninoa is a surf CAMP.. Not a resort, there is sinalei and coconuts if you want luxury accommodation.

To all of the great friends I've made while I've been a surf guide, thank you all for the good times and I look forward to seeing you again! :) to those few that have left disappointed or have negative things to say about me, I'm sorry you feel that way, but here in Samoa, if we have an issue that needs to be dealt with we simply talk about it face to face, not post things on the internet so people only get one side of the story. So to all u surfers that want to have a chilled out easy going holiday.. Samoa is the place to be! Hope to see you sometime! Cheers.

Best option is to stay ANYWHERE you want & go out surfing with "manoa tours" which is who we went out with, they are located at (keep their boat at) Coconuts Beach Club, but you can stay anywhere & use them. We stayed at Sina PJ's Beach Fale's which is about a 20 minute walk down the beach to the West from Coconuts Beach Club (5 min in the car) and manoa tours will pick you up on the beach infront of sina pj's in the boat & take you out surfing from there, best option.

We have just spent 10 days at Maninoa. The stay was average. The biggest problem was discovering that the boat only goes twice a day! Now be aware that outside parties can hire (hijack) the boat and that means we (as paying guests) can miss out. Thats a big issue when you find yourself unable to go surfing in the arvo because the boat has been out twice already in the morning!! The food was what you would expect in the kitchen of a first year Uni student flat. It was western and cheap. But there was plenty of it. Also don't bother with the upgrade, stay in the Beach Fales. Right on the beach and 5 yards from the boat its perfect. The people were very friendly and most importantly the waves were very good.

Myself and 8 friends have just came back from 13 nights at Maninoa Surf Camp. This is a surf camp, traditional fale with a mattress on the floor, mossie net, 2 power outlets and a fluro light which is located right on the beach. If you want tradition and great service with really nice food stay here. If you want luxury then go next door. The staff and the surf guide went out of their way to make us feel like kings. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, banana fritters and toast with dinner being chicken, fish, rice, bread & soups not too mention you can eat as much as you want! Awesome place and I will be back for sure.

If we are going first week in June do you think we can just turn up? I'm hesitant in booking through Australia because of some of the comments. Also, any tips on transport if we don't book ahead?

Yes - been here recently & would suggest staying ANYWHERE on the island (Upolu) and then contacting Manoa Tours Samoa who offer surf transfers daily leaving from Coconuts Resort - you can stay anywhere on island & use them for surfs each day.
