i lived in costa rica , in guanacaste for 23 years and i dont know anyone ever talking about someone being attacked by a shark, anyways its easier to get hit by lighting or getting attacked by a bull.

tamarindo is the best beach i can think of for begginers u can catch some very decent waves most of the time and the tide  wont drag you that much inside , u can practically stand on foot while being on  the break

I  live here in Playa Langosta and have run a surf school in the area for over 10 years.  Costa Rica has the largest shark fishing operation in the world .  The population has been depleted tremendously.  There are still sharks around, but not a hazard to surfers, especially compared to Florida.

DA DA ....DA DA DA<DADADADADADA.  Okay just amajine the Jaws theme as you read this.   Your out in the line up waiting
for the next set, and you feel something tug at your leg.  You
kinda lauph at yourself because of reading a surf forum about
shark attacks in Costa Rica and your paranoid about anything
that touches your leg.  You look down in the water, and it's turning red,  This is wigging you out so you bring both legs onto the board......but you only bring up one and a half.     The pain hits you now and it's beyond excruating.  The shark is right below your board and is abou-.....Shark attacks in Costa Rica.............Never  !!!!!   HA..HA...HA...Check your leg yet ?   HA< HA<--Damned I'm good

dont worry about the sharks. keep an eye for the crocs if you are up in witchs rock or that part of the country. and the jejenes will give you more grief than anything. maybe dont even get off the plane if your that worried about sharks cause your more likely to get smoked by a car or bus. or trip on your shoelace and drown in a puddle. if u wear sandals and scuba gear you might make it to the beach. enuff verbal spurting. good luck. ps. look out for stray board from people learning to surf too. theres a lot of stray boards in some spots.

There sure are Crocs in the water!  I surfed Witches Rock last November and a really big one swam inbetween two guys.  I was only 30ft away.  It was a really small day, maybe waist high surf.  The thing didn't seem to care that we were there.  He just swam out towards the rock and dove down.  That was the last we saw of him.  Our boat captain smiled, looked at us and said, "You scared!!"  We said no and kept surfing.  Just don't wipeout and land on one.  Then it'll probably bite!

I live in Costa Rica and have surfed there for years.  You are a LIAR!!!  There have been NO shark attacks in years because of the over fishing by the Thais and if you were attacked like you said you were, you'd be dead!  also, you are asking for it by where you are surfing and why.  i resent your lies and you need to not come to costa Rica because if you do, you will have way more problems than the sharks!  i will make sure you are cut off on EVERY wave you ride and if you even really ARe a surfer, you know the most dangerous animals there are other surfers so WATCH YOUR LYING ASS!!!
