Please can you tell me everything you know about surfing El Salvador. I am going there in Aug'06-sep'06. 1 month!
I have no idea if it is ok to rent a car and just explore? Is that too dangerous to do. Am I safer using pulic transportation? What is in your opinion the best place to situate myself. I am looking for no crowds obviously, a quiet area, but not too remote, as I do want to occasionally spend a night out on the town. I am also interested in being someplace which is safe. Please fill me in on any info that you want to share. Tell me everything.
Thanks so much,

the airport name is Comalapa and it's the only one we have, until you have where to stay i think it's safe if you go by bus to the diferente beaches, you should stay at El Tunco .is the same than El Sunzal, they're like 1 beach divided in 2 names, there are like mm 5 hostales where u can stay..and they're budget, and nice.and there are 2 hotels more expensive and fancy if u want too,in the same aerea, when u surf, leave your sandals and sunglasess at the hostal not over the sand.any questions? ask me..see you soon

I've been reading all the comments posted in here! and you guys are expecting to be safe and well treated.. when you go to the worst places around! not even salvadoreans visit those beaches or places.. there are many many good and safe places where to go, it's just a little more expensive but it's worth it. If you're looking to enjoy your trip in El Salvador, you should start looking for better options. Because if you visit the cheapest hotels, of course you'll have some trouble with gangs and shit like that 'cuz most of them are located in dangerous coast areas..

punta rocas is great, super world class. but overall polluted. i have been there 6 times and overall find el salvador tense. basically u have to be smart, a smart traveler, always on the lookout and bring non-valuables, instead of carrying a lot of cash, always have only around 150$, that way u avoid gnarly rip offs, and with the passport: have a copy or 2 and always have it with u on land, instead of leaving it on the hotel. jimmy and bob have a great hotel in san blas, close to punta rocas and junglesurftours.com, operated by "el chute" is a good deal, both deals work great, safety first.

Do I need to have my passport with me at all times? Can anybody recommend the best boat day trips?

The best is to catch a boat at Las Flores and go surfing to Punta Mango or other of the three breaks on the way. The boat costs $50.00.
There are many other boat trips that include fishing though. If you need more info you can contact: email@example.com
