my dad went to el salvador three years ago and was robbed 3 times in 5 days, once at gunpoint, once with a broken bottle, and once when he left his stuff on the beach while surfing. The theives are not dangerous though, just dont bring anything of value when you go down there.

Hey,

I was just in El Salvador and I want to recommend Lila's tours... they have great service and were really cool... they know the spots and at a good price...

I'll hook you up with their contact info.

I went to ES in June and it was awesome!!  You must speak and understand enough spanish to get around, eat, etc.  Many people do not speak english.  Stay low key and don't be a obnoxious gringo turd and you will be well received.  Most of the people are trying to live and are not the small percentage that make trouble.  Tip well because most will work hard for you out of niceness....and the surf was 6-8ft while I was there!  If you stay at Atami ask for Raul and bring a bar of wax for the locals.
