RE: Waidroka Bay Surf Camp Sucks« on: August 27 2009 03:08:00 »
Waidroka right now is run by a New Zeland couple. They both are dive masters so if you like diving they can take you to the best places in Fidji including the shark dive. Also staying with them there is a Hawaian surf guide named Cap that knows everything about local waves. I have to say that the day I arrived with only a toast in my stomach I jumped in 2 boats that took us to Frigates. 8 feet wave left that breaks perfect in the middle of the ocean.
The place and the hospitality is better than perfect.
Always thinking in surfing

Talked to someone from the area and they did confirm that these two managers that were getting the good reviews are indeed gone. Too bad from the sounds of things. And... they hired new managers who apparently quit after one month... mmmm makes you really wonder about these owners that everyone trashes. Now there are new managers - again....

These comments seem abit outdated. Just spent a week there and surfed alot even though conditions weren't great (never got those freight train barrels you expect in Fiji) We went to Frigates pass on the best days and had it to ourselves ( means no ther surf camp bothered those days) plus snorkeled with pilot wales on the way home. Anyway the surf guide was pumped and was pritty accurate on his forecasts and did the best he could with fickle conditions so we still had some good surfs.

Has anyone been to Waidroka lately?
I'like to go there within the next month for some surfing and scuba diving. Since the ratings on this forum differ a lot, I'd be super stoked about some news to the friendliness of the staff, its knowledge about surfing/diving, general outlook of the infrastructure and maybe the quality of the food.
Cheers for your help,

Waidroka bay is a rort don't stay there but probably not alot different to the other resorts around.I$raelies. frigates is amazing - if you have time hook up with local expats and go out -otherwise you don't have much choise to pay the 70-90 bucks for the boat trip.
