Hi all India surfers,
Just went back after surf searcing trip from Cochin up to Chennai.
Went first to Kerala were I had nice surf in Varkala and Kovalam, where I met the best surfer of India: Muthu. He lived for 5 years in the Andaman and organize some trips to it. Friendly small guy.
Beach breaks with lots of close outs, but there are sometimes some nice sets in between.

Went on Auro-beach (Pondicherry), but realy bad surf over there, due to the strong south current.
The best surf I found was the north peak next to the shore temple (oldest temple in South India) in Malhalpuram (1,5hours from Chennai). Long right with tuby sections in it. Can hold 10ft in the season which starts from now (monsoon). No current, clean water (in the morning when there's no wind). Nice laid back touristcity with good food, old temples and lot's of accommodation right on the beach. I realy love this city. Pictures will follow.
I surfed one session with an Australian pastor (Peter) from Chennai.
If you need more info, pls let me know.
Geert-Jan from Holland (Scheveningen).

hey Gordan johnson
Have just got back to Mainland India after a month in the Andamans, Had my boards with me and manages to get in to some sweet waves. You can get waves in Havlock on beack 7 but they tend to be small, a few of us went down to little Andaman which has been quite hard hit by the tsunami and headed south where we had a week of great waves, have to prepaired to go hard though as there is no where to stay, we stayed on the beach in hamocks. Had no problems with restrictions, everyone was pleased to see us!
Hope this helps

I'm going to pondicherry this august, planning on staying till the end of november, then travel a bit around in india. Im thinking of bringing my surfboard, and judging by this thread it looks like i could definitely get some surfing done while in pondicherry. So I was just wondering about the surf in the area: is the lineup crowded, and are the locals friendly? And would a girl from norway (still on the beginners-level) be welcome in the lineup?
any kind of advice regarding surf in india would be nice, im just looking for nice waves, friendly people and a great time in india.
