I recommend you Lanuza in Surigao del Sur/Mindanao. Just last week took the 3rd national surfing competition place with more than 200 participants. The waves are awesome and best for beginners and intermediate sufers. Accomodation is close to the beach. Best are the Bed-and-Breakfast places starting with 150 Peso per night.

For a local contact, reach out to Geri Irrizari +63 (920) 2951935.

Cheers, Oliver

Hey Oliver, your contact Gerri, he's the mayor of Lanusa right! I was at Surigao 2 months ago and decided to go to Lanusa but September wasnt good and the drive from Surigao to Lanusa was 4-5 hours rough road up the mountain and down, and a few blokes from crew (surigao local) told me stories about the bandits that robbed and abused outsiders, I was gonna email Gerri about it!

Anyway, the baranggay captain Mrs. Frias was helpful when I was there... I was just by myself, it's safer than Siargao coz it's sand bar!

Hi there. I'm 30 , can swim fairly well and would like to learn how to surf. Am I too old to learn? Kahiya kasi to just pop in a resort with my baby girl in tow. Baka pagtawanan tayo ng mga teens, hehehe.
The closest I got to surfing was when I was a teen (our family has a small resort in La Union) I borrowed a board from some nice peacecorps members staying at our resort, and ended getting whacked on the head by a board when a pretty big wave swelled up. After that I kinds stayed away. But I'd like to try.
And my daughter's four, she thinks its cool after seeing a cartoon doing it. So where could I probably learn the basics?  Thanks guys.

It's never too late mate! well if your in La Union then you can easily access the surf resort there, if your in Manila then I suggest Crystal Beach Zambales not sure this time of the year though. I've got 7 yo daughter she's started surfing when she was six, we are in Sydney so palaging may alon all year round, have fun Rosey, and good on you for getting into it!

Kids are great!
