Description

Wyldewood Beach in Port Colborne is the birth place of the oldest International surf club in the Great Lakes. It used to have dunes and be a place where Canadian Great Lakes surfers camped and surfed in the early sixties. E.S.A. surf contests have been held there for years mostly in July. It can get overhead on the right storm. It is primarily a longboarding break. It is a beginner to intermediate break. Most of the Ontario breaks described in this part of Lake Erie are not accurately rated. H-Bay when it is big is intermediate and not suitable for a beginner. The mole lady is a middle aged women with issues at H-Bay. At Wyldewood there are many cottage owners who enjoy watching the surfing. The beach there has lots of new cottages there. The best place to get out is west of the pink, cinder block cottage. If you find yourself in front of the access road fences you have drifted off the line up. In the summer the waves have more surfers. As the weather gets frigid in late November or December the wheat gets seperated from the chaff. Surfing in the Great Lakes is best in the Fall and Winter. There isn't really a problem with surfers but with access from a few summer cottage owners who became territorial at surfers ignoring the no trespassing signs. Some owners have water rights which means they own the beach all the way out into the water. Most of the time there is no problem as long as surfers are respectful to the owners.
